1) Three new films will debut Jan. 17, 2020, at Epcot, on the same day the Epcot International Festival of the Arts begins!

“Awesome Planet”, in The Land pavilion, showcases the Earth’s beauty and diversity in a 10-minute film featuring spectacular imagery, in-theater effects and an original musical score from Academy Award-winning® composer Steven Price.

“Beauty and the Beast Sing-Along”, in the France pavilion, is directed and produced by Don Hahn, producer of the animated and live-action “Beauty and the Beast” films, and invites Guests to participate in a twist on a tale as old as time. It also features narration from Angela Lansbury, who played Mrs. Potts in the original film. The new sing-along will run in rotation with “Impressions de France,” which will receive an upgrade to 4K projection.

And “Canada Far and Wide in Circle-Vision 360”, in the Canada pavilion, is an update to the previous “O Canada!” film with new scenes, a new musical score by Canadian composer Andrew Lockington and new narration by award-winning actors Catherine O’Hara and Eugene Levy.

2) We were given a “first look” inside Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure at Epcot!
Courtesy of Disney Travel News

Chef Remy is cooking up something special at Epcot®, and Walt Disney Imagineering is hard at work developing a new attraction for the park’s France pavilion, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, planned to open in summer 2020. Based on Disney and Pixar’s hit film, “Ratatouille,” this family-friendly attraction will invite you to shrink down to the scale of a rat for a culinary adventure with Chef Remy. You will race across Gusteau’s kitchen floor aboard special trackless ride vehicles, which you can see in the image at the top of this post.

Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure is one of several new experiences coming to Epcot as part of the park’s historic transformation already underway.

3) New Details were revealed on restaurants coming to Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios:

The new fast-casual restaurant, opening this winter at The American Adventure in Epcot, will serve classic barbecue and home-style craft brews. Coming in 2020 to Toy Story Land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is a new table-service restaurant that invites you to a rootin’, tootin’ rodeo right in Andy’s back yard! Whether you show up via personal vehicle, Disney transportation or by landspeeder, curb-side check-in prepares you to leave Earth behind, jump to lightspeed and begin your Star Wars story. From the Starcruiser Terminal, Guests will enter an exclusive launch pod transport ship (above) for travel up to the Halcyon, the starcruiser in a galaxy far, far away. Through the pod’s viewports, it looks as though you’re traveling through space to approach the massive ship that is much too large to land on any planet.

A “spaceport of call” to Black Spire Outpost is included in the itinerary, where special passenger transports take you to the planet Batuu (also known as the destination for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios®). You’ll remain fully in-story as you step aboard the transport ships designed specifically for this new immersive experience, which take you from Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and back.  For Star Wars fans, this promises to be an amazing experience like no other and we’ll be reporting on all the future details as they are announced.

Important Updates on Disney Skyliner

We know many of you have been looking for an update on Disney Skyliner and are glad to share that it has reopened to Guests today!
Courtesy of Disney Travel News

Disney has asked us to share the following information:

“Following a complete review with the manufacturer, we’ve made adjustments to our processes and training, and we are improving how we communicate with Guests during their flight with Disney Skyliner.  We again offer our deepest apologies to Guests impacted by the malfunction that resulted in extended operating delays on Oct. 5, 2019.

Beginning today, you may travel aboard Disney Skyliner from 8 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.  However, system updates later this week will result in the following modified operating hours for Oct. 16-18:

  • Oct. 16:  The Disney Hollywood Studios® line will be closed while the other two lines will be available from 1 p.m. – 10:30 p.m.
  • Oct. 17-18: All lines will be open from 1 p.m. – 10:30 p.m.

Similar to ski lift systems, Disney Skyliner may slow or come to some stops during the ride, particularly when we need to accommodate Guests who require additional time to load their cabin.  We want to assure you that the comfort of every Guest is important to us.

As a reminder, Disney Skyliner connects Epcot® and Disney’s Hollywood Studios to four Disney resort hotels: Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, Disney’s Pop Century Resort, Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort (and the forthcoming Disney’s Riviera Resort,  set to open Dec. 16, 2019).

We greatly appreciate your ongoing patience and understanding, and we look forward to welcoming you back aboard Disney Skyliner.”

We’re happy to see the Skyliner up and running and can’t wait to be back aboard as well!

This annual list recognizes 100 destinations around the world that are breaking new ground, leading industry trends and offering guests an experience that’s unlike any other.

Walt Disney once said “Disneyland will never be completed. It will continue to grow as long as there is imagination left in the world.”

There were never truer words! Since opening at Disneyland® Resort on May 31, 2019,  Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge visitors have been transported to a galaxy far, far away as they visit the largest single-themed land in Disney parks’ history. The land has quickly become a guest favorite, with visitors raving about the many immersive experiences to explore on the remote planet of Batuu, including blasting across the galaxy aboard Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run – already one of the Disneyland Resort’s top-rated attractions that recently welcomed the one millionth member of Hondo Ohnaka’s flight crew!

TIME Magazine measured the land across quality, originality, innovation, sustainability and influence, and as we countdown to the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Walt Disney World® Resort on Aug. 29, 2019,  guests on both coasts can look forward to exploring the experience-based storytelling of this one-of-a-kind land.

Rise of the Resistance will join the already popular Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run on Dec. 5 at Walt Disney World (Walt’s birthday in fact) and later in Disneyland on January 17. Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance will blur the lines between fantasy and reality, putting you in the middle of a climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance.

Stay tuned for exciting coverage of the debut at Walt Disney World Resort next week!

Rainy Day Fun at Walt Disney World Resort

A little rain should never put a damper on a full day of magic.  There are always exciting activities, attractions and entertainment for the whole family to enjoy.  Here are just a few favorite picks!

Magic Kingdom® Park

  • When the afternoon parades at Magic Kingdom Park can’t be performed as planned, Disney friends come out to play in the “Rainy Day Cavalcade.” As long as it’s not lightening, this cheery procession brings Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse and their pals down the street in antique vehicles, accompanied by a special musical soundtrack and parade performers in colorful rain slickers and galoshes!
  • As for indoor attractions, there’s a lot to choose from! You can hop on a rip-roaring rocket on Space Mountain, take a spin with Buzz Lightyear, laugh it up with the gang from Monsters, Inc., set sail on a swashbuckling voyage on Pirates of the Caribbean attraction, or climb aboard a gloomy Doom Buggy in the Haunted Mansion. You can also fly with Peter Pan, ride in a honeypot to see Winnie the Pooh, board a clam mobile with Ariel and Friends, and even take a friendly cruise on It’s a Small World.
Soarin’ Around the World – Photo Courtesy of Disney Destinations

Epcot®

  • Take flight on Soarin’ Around the World.  This indoor attraction allows you to experience a breezy, airborne adventure as you hang glide above the breathtaking marvels of the world.
  • Go under the sea—without getting wet—on The Seas with Nemo & Friends before getting close up with clown fish, sharks and more in a massive 5.7-million-gallon saltwater aquarium. You can even visit with manatees! Don’t forget to enjoy some Turtle Talk with Crush too. (My family and I rode out a storm a few weeks ago here and it was great!)
  • Catch a Disney and Pixar short film—in amazing 4D at the Disney and Pixar Short Film Festival. TIP: This is a best-kept secret as the films are always a treat! Afterwards, visit with Figment who’s right around the corner.
  • Pop into the Mexican Pavillion and explore the shops, then take a ride with The Three Caballeros or if you find yourself in Norway, take a Frozen voyage to Arendelle aboard an ancient Nordic vessel.
  • Eleven countries are represented in World Showcase and the pavilions feature Kidcot Fun Stops, shopping, dining, and even some attractions such as Reflections of China, a Circle-Vision 360º film (note O Canada! is being refurbished and will reopen later next year).

Disney’s Hollywood Studios®

  • Step inside Andy’s room and make your way through a toy chest full of classic games before you pick up your 3D glasses and board a carnival-inspired tram and take your best shot a moving targets. TIP: Points pile up when you hit your mark. Hard-to-hit targets are worth more. Aim for secret targets to unleash “Easter eggs” that are worth even more points!
  • Check into the infamous Hollywood Tower Hotel on The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror attraction where you’ll be hurtled up and down aboard an elevator-style lift and brought into…the Twilight Zone.
  • Make your way over to the indoor Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster starring Aerosmith and race along the darkened freeways of Los Angeles in a super-stretch limo to the rockin’ tunes of Aerosmith. This ride includes a pre-show and the gift shop at the end is pretty neat too!
  • Sing along with Anna & Elsa in For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Singalong Celebration.
  • Join the Muppets in a 3D show as they take you on a zany tour of their lab.
  • Explore a Galaxy far, far away in Star Tours or check out the ultimate insider’s guide in Star Wars Launch Bay.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom® Theme Park

  • In Africa, head over to “The Festival of the Lion King,” a high-energy show filled with songs, pageantry and puppetry celebrating the classic movie, “The Lion King.”
  • Venture over to Pandora – The World of Avatar area where you can take a mystical journey into Pandora’s glowing bioluminescent rainforest on Na’vi River Journey attraction. This indoor boat ride will take you on a visually stunning adventure!
  • Embark on a prehistoric tour aboard a Time Rover to save an Iguanadon from extinction at Dinosaur! (Note: this ride may be too intense for small children.)

Character Meet and Greets are also a great way for you to meet some of your favorite Disney characters while avoiding the rain. Character meals are another. Check your My Disney Experience app for locations and times (note: not all meet and greet locations are indoors). Although reservations are usually needed for character dining, the rain may open up some spots due to cancellations, so it doesn’t hurt to check the app!

Some of our favorite rainy day restaurants:

  • The Crystal Palace at Magic Kingdom Park – includes an all-you-care-to-enjoy buffet with some of your favorite friends from the Hundred-Acre Wood.
  • Akershus Royal Banquet Hall in Epcot  – an enchanting experience that invites you to feast inside a medieval castle while interacting with some beloved Disney Princesses.
  • Tusker House Restaurant in Disney’s Animal Kingdom  – in the Harambe marketplace allows you to enjoy African inspired dishes alongside some of your favorite Disney characters like Safari Donald Duck and friends.
  • Hollywood & Vine in Disney’s Hollywood Studios – meet some Disney Junior Characters during a memorable breakfast buffet or Minnie Mouse and friends at seasonal dining parties!

Who doesn’t love Disney gear? You can always stay dry and treat yourself to a new umbrella or raincoat! They can be found in the World of Disney at Disney Springs®, Once Upon A Time at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, the Future World kiosk and Mouse Gear at Epcot and the Emporium at Magic Kingdom Park. Mickey ponchos are also located in most gift shops as well.

Lastly, plan ahead! Storms roll in quickly in Florida. Bring a waterproof cover for your stroller (or scooter) as well as a small towel; a poncho could also do the trick. Be sure to fasten it well when you park or it may blow off during a storm. There’s also nothing worse than walking around in wet socks and saggy, soaked britches! Wearing quick drying clothing and shoes – or bringing a change of clothes and shoes just in case – is also a good idea. These items can easily be stored in a locker located at the beginning of the all theme parks if you don’t feel like carrying them during your day.

The weather may not always cooperate, but being prepared can help make your visit at Walt Disney World Resort a success. Another bonus: rain keeps temps a bit lower and crowds a bit thinner as well!
